Getting Started

CERTIFICATE

The Certificate in English Proficiency is a one-year programme targetted at non English speakers or applicants who would want to improve on their proficiency in the English language to take up further studies at UCC. 

UNDERGRADUATE

The minimum admission requirement into the University of Cape Coast for WASSCE applicants is aggregate 36.

  1. Candidates must have credit passes in six (6) subjects with an overall aggregate of 36/24 at the WASSCE/SSSCE respectively. Three of the six subjects must be core subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies and three must be in relevant electives. For purposes of admission, a credit pass in: WASSCE means A1 – C6, SSSCE means A – D
  2. Holders of the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level (obtained not more than three years ago) must, in addition to credit passes in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects (including English and Mathematics), have, at least, two (2) passes in the relevant subjects.
  3. Applicants with the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) results should have credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects including English Language and Mathematics plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
  4. Holders of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)/ International Baccalaureate (IB) must possess at least Grades A*/A-C in English, Mathematics and Biology at the Standard (SL)/’O’ Level, in addition to three Higher Level (HL – A to C)/’A’ Level (A to D)/IB 2 (A to C) grades in the relevant subjects.
  5. Applicants are required to read specific Departmental/programme requirements contained in the Admissions Brochure before completing the online application.

Before you start the application, kindly ensure you have the following documents and information available:

  1. A digital passport-sized photograph.
  2. A scanned copy of passport bio-data page
  3. Results from Senior High School equivalent.
  4. Applicants with W.A.S.S.C.E results have to add result checker information.
  5. Results in a language that is not English will have to be translated and certified to be accepted. All International applicants’ qualifications would be referred to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to the programme.
  6. Information on previous insitutions attended with dates attended and completed
  7. Contact information for sponsor.

POSTGRADUATE

Candidates seeking admission to an MA/MEd/MSc/MBA degree programme must:

  1. Have obtained a good first degree (at least a second class) in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university/analogous institution.

Candidates seeking admission to MPhil/MCom/MN degree programmes must:

  1. Have obtained a good first degree (at least a second class) in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university/analogous institution.

Candidates seeking admission to PhD programmes must:

  1. Have an MPhil or research MA/MEd/MSc/MBA degree in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university. OR
  2. Have MA/Med/MSc/MBA degree in an appropriate field, with CGPA of 3.5 or better with not less than grade C+. Also, have scored B+ or better in Research Methods course

Before you start the application, kindly ensure you have the following documents and information available:

  1. A digital passport-sized photograph.
  2. A scanned copy of passport bio-data page
  3. Submit all official transcripts of academic record.
  4. All previous certificates
  5. A current curriculum vitae
  6. A letter of motivation
  7. Applicants for Masters must submit two reference reports, one of which must be from a former lecturer. PhD applicants have to submit three reference reports.
  8. MPhil applicants must submit a 2-3 page proposal on intended area of study including references. PhD applicants must submit a 3-5 page proposal on intended area of study including a working bibliography.
  9. Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the College/Faculties/School/ Department.
